Desert lake

desert lake

We read a lot about the drought in the South but most of the big reservoirs lay outside of the urban/suburban radar. Located about 40 north west of Charleston SC is Lake Moultrie. This 60000 acre man made lake is run by a major utility company here in South Carolina. Usually when full this lake is a haven for sportsman and campers. However, from the picture you can see above this lake is drying out. The first thing that came to mind when I saw this was a National Geographic article I read during the 1980’s all about the drying up of the Aral Sea in central Russia. Looks like Lake Moultrie is becoming South Carolina’s version of the Aral Sea.
