Vibe Dispatch- 2008 Election

If there’s any way to sum up how I feel about this subject it would be APATHY. This coming from a former political junkie who used to eat up the 24/7 news cycle like candy. Maybe it’s just seven years of Bush follies combined with watching a field of candidates banter for the past year and a half. The fact of the matter is that I’m just not feeling the Hope? Even back in 04 when the Democrats were railroading Kerry through the primaries as the nominee, there was a sense of Hope. A feeling that he might be some kind of contender. This year though, I’m just not feeling it. Maybe Iowa might shake some things up a bit but my biggest fear is that we will have the same old dog and pony show that we saw in 04. This year we have 2 parties engaging in the show so it will be interesting to see just how far they refine this bullshit process we call the primaries.

I’m sure the primary system worked well when our founding fathers envisioned it but now it seems more dysfunctional than a third world election. Hence my apathy! Perhaps if things work out differently in Iowa and New Hampshire that glimmer of hope and enthusiasm may begin to kindle. However, if it’s an assumed front runner rail road job (Dems-Hillary - Rep Huckabee or McCain) then this election will go the way of the zogby –cnn-cbs-abc-nbc mass media polling scenario calling the shots. If that’s the case, then this election will be another well orchestrated roller coaster ride just like 04.

Now not going as far to give any endorsements, on the Republican side I like Ron Paul, his libertarian views and his grassroots support system should be raising eyebrows to any American voter looking to send a message and wants to see any major change in our current political system. I can’t really say so much for the other candidate on the right however, they’re not even worth the stokes on this keyboard. Each one seems to be a well marketed brand geared toward their respective demographic. The same could be said for most of the Democrat candidates as well. Here it only comes down to two candidates. Hillary and Barack. I’ve lost my faith in Hillary though. The more I see her speak the more rhetorical bullshit she spewes. You can’t pull a “Don’t stop waiting for tomorrow” on us in 08. To me she’s the lefts version of GW. She really has nothing to offer. She’s just another political brand name, like a box of Tide instead of the previous 8 years of Wisk. So that leaves Barack Obama, I will say he does exude a sense of hopeful, joyful energy. Just check out those CSPAN clips where they follow him around with the cameras after an event and you can see it. He enlivens his crowds unlike any other candidate. For this election to get interesting the mold must be broken from the get go. So I say go Ron Paul and go Obama.
